A Malakoff ISD bus driver has been suspended following a wreck Thursday morning.
Five Malakoff Independent School District students were transported to the hospital for precautionary measures, the district says, after a bus rolled over Thursday.
The bus driver and five students were taken to the hospital by ambulance, and several other students were later taken to the emergency room by their parents.
The wreck, involving Bus No. 59, occurred about 7:20 a.m. on Highway 274, five miles north of Trinidad, according to the Department of Public Safety. The bus was carrying 42 middle school and high school students.
“They heard a bunch of screaming and they kept trying to get the bus driver awake because she was asleep at the wheel,” Taylor said.
Perry hasn’t not confirmed if the driver fell asleep, and the district will be reviewing camera footage from the bus.
“They have reported she’s been asleep at the wheel more than once but Malakoff school district hasn’t taken any charge in doing anything about it,” Taylor said.
According to Perry no complaints have been received about the bus driver.
